| Alumni Spotlight |
St. John's Prep is incredibly proud of our alumni, especially when they take the education received within these halls and use it to shape the world around them. Today, we are thrilled to celebrate Maureen Corrigan (Mater Christi '73), who was recently awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters from Fordham University.
A Lifelong Passion for Literature
After graduating from Mater Christi, Maureen pursued her love for the written word, earning her B.A. in English from Fordham University, followed by her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Today, she is one of the nation's most trusted literary voices. You might recognize her as the book critic for NPR's Fresh Air, or know her through her work as the Nicky and Jamie Grant Distinguished Professor of the Practice in Literary Criticism at Georgetown University.
Maureen is a true expert on the life of F. Scott Fitzgerald graciously acknowledges and cites her strong academic experience at Mater Christi High School as a foundation for her success. In 2013 Maureen returned to St. John’s Prep to research, to speak and to gain insights from our students for her book, So We Read On. She helped students appreciate and understand the timeless popularity and relevance of Gatsby and Fitzgerald.
We are sincerely blessed and grateful for Maureen’s presence and support to our school community.
